BYA's 40 YEARS OF INCOMPETENCE

PAUL Biya's Loyalists celebrates 40 years of corruption, Hopes dashed...even in Ambazonia.

On his ascension to power Biya pledged a “new deal” to restore integrity and eliminate corruption, rigour and moralisation but behold those promises and pronouncements were dead on arrival Biya ushered in embezzlement of public funds as this syndrome exploded from the mid-1980s just as he stepped in to office. He remade the nation’s only political party, Cameroon National Union - CNU, in his image, renaming it the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement. CPDM. Boasting that he brought democracy. He packed his administration with people from his ethnic group and drove a solvent economy into insolvency. His policies targeted and undermined groups like Bamilekes, Ambazonians and Northerners.

He changed the name of the country from the United Republic of Cameroon to the Republique du Cameroun, a clear indication that Ambazonian concerns did not matter. By reverting to a name before unification was an act of secession as he singlehanded made the union irrelevant. On taking power on November 6, 1982. Biya’s first outing was in Bamenda in April 1983 where he lied loud and clear that he was personally going to supervise the Ring Road.Today, 40 years after where is the Ring Road? Bamenda – Kumbo – Nkambe – Wum – Bamenda has remained a nightmare 40 years after and when one adds 40 to Ahidjo’s 21 arithmetically Ambazonians have been fooled for 61 years.

CPDM stalwarts shamelessly sneaked into Ambazonian towns like Bamenda, Buea, Bangem, Nkambe, and others to endorse Biya’s 40 years of incompetence, corruption, laissez- faire, embezzlement and arrogance. Led by the CPDM Secretary-general, Jean Kuete, speakers at the event highlighted what they thought were Mr. Biya’s achievements – indeed his appalling failure – over the last four decades. Meanwhile there's a video of the cake used for the Celebration in Bamenda. The people in charge of these various mobilizations are very much driven by the logic of clientelism, as each tries to show his allegiance, to show a lot of fidelity and loyalty to the old monarch.

But Cameroonians cannot be fooled. The results are there for all to see. The country has been caught up in a downward spiral with corruption becoming the regime’s hallmark. Since coming to power in 1982, Mr. Biya has legalized corruption and his country has won the world corruption trophy twice He and his followers hold that nothing can be achieved without corruption. They use money to buy loyalty, corrupt those who criticize the government and imprison those who refuse their bribes. Biya’s ministers in fact an entire cabinet including the prime minister are all in the kondengui prison locked up for corruption charges.

Needless counting directors and other high profile thieves languishing in jails because of Biya’s lack lustre administration, no checks and balances, no accountability, no transparency. One director alone, Emmanuel Lebou has operated 2601 fake salary accounts for 20 years draining the state treasury. For forty years, instead of investing in infrastructure which could drive development and create jobs, Mr. Biya and his collaborators have transformed the country’s treasury into their personal ATM. Here we are today celebrating 40 years of evil in human form, incompetence, corruption and demonic powers that have held the country hostage. However, critics of the Biya regime were wearing black amid the celebrations considering "November 6 as a day of national mourning
