HYSACAM CAUSES MORE DEATH

Headline: Colonial Mayor Called to Order as about 18 die on same spot in one week

Undaunted has learnt on a sad note that nine people were reported dead and one injured in yet another tragic incident that occurred along the Muea-EKona highway in Fako Country. This has brought to a total of 17 people who have lost their lives within one week very sad indeed. On Friday, December 16, 2022, a small commercial private car with light green colour crashed into a truck along the same road where the LRC garbage collection company, abbreviated in French, HYSACAM, incinerates refuse.

Nine people died on the spot while one person was transported to the Buea regional hospital for urgent medical care. Undaunted gathers.

Field reports add that on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, seven passengers lost their lives in the same spot after their car was hit by a truck. Days before the incident, two reportedly died on the same spot, making it 18 in one week. Apart from the bad road between Muea and EKona districts, the area where the three accidents have occurred is usually covered with smoke, making driver’s visibility difficult.

The LRC garbage collection company does not recycle the waste but incinerates them causing chunks of smoke to cover the entire road. Drivers plying this road find it difficult to determine what is parked in front of them or if a car is oncoming. The colonial Mayor of Buea on whose authority, HYSACAM operates, should know that things are getting worse. The waste and sanitation company should look for alternative means to dispose of refuse collected rather than burn them on the highway, costing lives.

As Christmas and New Year fast approaches, more deaths may still occur if maximum security and care is not taken.
