The Interim Government calls on the UN to investigate War Crimes & Atrocities by Cameroon forces in the Southern Cameroon.

The war launched by Russia on Ukraine has been raging for more than two months now, with thousands of innocent civilians killed, millions of refugees forced out of the country, millions more displaced internally, and dozens of cities destroyed. These tragic events have shocked the world, leading to general condemnations from the international community, resulting to the imposition of a wide range of sanctions on the Russia Federation, including the freezing of Russia’s foreign reserves, expulsion from the global financial system, a general trade embargo, and travelling restriction imposed on many top officials of the Russian government. On March 2nd, The United Nations voted overwhelmingly for a resolution deploring Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and called for the immediate withdrawal of its forces, in a global expression of outrage that highlighted Russia’s increasing isolation. In an emergency session of the UN’s general assembly, 141 of the 193 member states voted for the resolution, 35 abstained, and five voted against. The resolution said the UN “deplores in the strongest terms the aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine”. It demanded that “the Russian Federation immediately cease its use of force against Ukraine” and “immediately, completely and unconditionally withdraw all of its military forces”. On April 7th, the UN General Assembly also voted to suspend the rights of the membership of the Russian Federation in the Human Rights Council during an Emergency Special Session on Ukraine.

These actions taken by the United Nations demonstrated the general outrage felt by the international community towards the actions of Russia in Ukraine. However, a less publicized and more insidious war of annexation, colonization and genocide has been going on now in the Southern Cameroons – Ambazonia, and being waged by the Genocidal regime of French Cameroon. Since November 2016, when Southern Cameroons teachers and lawyers called a sit-in strike to protest the creeping annexation of the territory of the Southern Cameroons – Ambazonia, Cameroon’s security forces have been carrying out a war of genocide on our people, with at least thirty thousand people, mostly civilians, massacred. Hundreds have been arbitrarily arrested and imprisoned, millions of internally displaced, and tens of thousands forced out as refuges in Nigeria, Ghana, Europe, Asia, and The United States - where they were recently granted (Temporary Protected Status). Meanwhile hundreds of villages have been systematically burned down, sometimes with innocent civilians and old people in them. These atrocities have been going on now for over four years, yet the world has stayed silent. The Interim Government of Ambazonia is shocked by the hypocrisy, neglect and double standards, as we see the UN, AU, CEMAC, ECOWAS regional bodies, and many nations in the world, including the five permanent members (The United States, Russia, China, Britain and France) staying silent in the face of these atrocities.

The President of the Federal Republic of Ambazonia, HE, Dr. Samuel Ikome Sako, and the good people of the Southern Cameroons call on the international community, including the United States and Britain to show the same outrage over the Russian invation of Ukraine, by passing a resolution at the Security Council and the General Assembly calling for Cameroon to end her war of aggression against the peace loving peoples of Ambazonia. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, more than 100 innocent civilians of Southern Cameroons origin has been massacred by Cameron’s security services. Just this past week, the bodies of more than 10 civilians have been discovered in Bamenda, Ambazonia’s largest city, as well as in Guzang, a village community about 40 kms from the city center. Despite widespread condemnation by Human Rights organizations like Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, The International Crisis Group, The Norwegian Council, and many other reputable organizations, Cameroon has continued her war of genocide and colonial subjugation of our people. It should be noted that schools, hospital and other essential facilities in the Southern Caeroons have been attacked as well, with children murdered, nurses and other medical staff attacked, beaten and summarily executed. Recently, Medicine san Frontiers, a medical NGO that was providing lifesaving support to our sick and vulnerable people was recently kicked out of both the Northern and Southern Zones of Ambazonia by the authorities of Cameroon.

Meanwhile the Interim Government of the Southern Cameroons – Ambazonia, is saddened by the suffering and unwarranted deaths in Ukraine for the past two months now due to the ongoing war, and have shown our support for the people of Ukraine, we equally call on the UN, and the International community to equally hold the French Republic of Cameroun and her allies accountable for the ongoing atrocities, war crimes and crimes against humanity being perpetrated against the peace loving people of Ambazonia. Just like the Ukrainians, we’ll continue to defend our country and our people, while making another earnest call for the International community to act now to put an end to Cameroon’s crimes in Ambazonia. The Interim Government of Ambazonia, headed by Dr. Samuel Ikome Sako also repeats its call for the UN Security Council to send a fact-finding mission to the Southern Cameroons to investigate these atrocities. We equally call on the African Union, as well as leaders of the various sub-Regional group to act in earnest now, by not only condemning the killings, and crimes against humanity being committed against innocent civilians, but also for them to apply comprehensive sanctions on Cameroon so as to bring an end to this tragic war.
