Morocco to host TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2022 final.

The previous CAF leadership decided on 17 July 2019 that the winner of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League will be determined by a one leg final, instead of the usual two-legged, home and away final. CAF received a bid from the Senegalese Football Federation and from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to host the final of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2022. The Senegalese Football Federation subsequently withdrew their bid. CAF is therefore pleased to award the hosting of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League final to Morocco. The date of the final is 30 May 2022. There are currently discussions underway within CAF to revert to the Old two-legged home and away final to determine the winner of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, rather than the one-leg final.

Brazil-Argentina World Cup qualifier must be replayed after FIFA denies appeal.

The FIFA appeal committee ruled on Monday that the abandoned world cup qualifier between Brazil and Argentina must be replayed after considering the appeals filed by the countries’ football associations. The qualifier in September was suspended just minutes after kick-off when Brazilian health officials invaded the pitch to stop Argentina’s England-based players from playing, saying they had breached the country’s COVID-19 quarantine rules. Both teams have already qualified for the world cup in Qatar later this year, with Brazil topping the South American standings and Argentina finishing second. But football’s governing body FIFA had ruled in February that the match must be replayed. “After analysing the submissions of both parties and considering all circumstances of the case, the Appeal Committee confirmed that the match would be replayed,” FIFA said in a statement. “FIFA also upheld the fine of 50,000 Swiss francs that was imposed on both associations as a result of the abandonment.” FIFA had also fined Brazil’s FA and Argentina's Football Association for failure to ensure “order and safety.” Those fines were reduced to 250,000 Swiss francs and 100,000 Swiss francs in Monday’s appeal.

US PGA Championship; Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods named in 156-man field.

Defending champion Phil Mickelson and 15 time major winner Tiger Woods have been named in the 156 man field for the US PGA championship in Oklahoma. Woods returned to competitive golf at the Masters in April, 14 months after suffering life-threatening injuries in a car crash. Mickelson, who has been on a break from golf after criticising Saudi Arabia's regime, last played in February. Golf's second major of the year takes place from 19-22 May. Mickelson 51, became golf’s oldest major champion when he won at Kiawah Island's Ocean Course in 2021. However, he lost multiple sponsors and saw his reputation tarnished after he sought to use involvement with a Saudi Arabian-backed golf super league to gain leverage over the PGA Tour. The fallout saw him miss the Masters for the first time in 28 years. Mickelson’s participation would see him face the media for the first time in months and while he has been named as provisional starter, he could still pull out at the last minute. Woods 46, who nearly lost his right leg in the 2021 car crash, made the cut at Augusta after opening with a round of 71 and eventually finished 47th.
