TRADE UNION CONDEMN THE MURDER OF MARTINEZ ZOGO

The Confederation of Autonomous Trade Unions of Cameroon (CSAC) has learned with emotion, the appalling assassination of journalist Martinez ZOGO whose dead body was found in a suburb of Yaoundé. The CSAC strongly condemns this despicable and heinous crime which tarnishes the image and dishonors our country Cameroon. By this macabre act the perpetrators of the crime ostensibly violate the universal declaration of human rights which states that: “everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person", this assassination constitutes a serious attack on the dignity and freedom of human rights.

Martinez ZOGO was killed for doing his job.

Faced with this ignominy, the CSAC takes offense and challenges responsibility of the government of the republic to set up a commission of inquiry to elucidate the causes and circumstances of the journalist's murder. Demands the immediate opening of a judicial inquiry to establish the responsibilities and punish perpetrators of such cruel, inhuman treatment as well as its or his murderers. Request that in future a framework and an effective mechanism for the protection of press workers in general and the media in particular be put in place. Call for sanctions against the culprits and sponsors of the crime provided for by the laws and regulations of our country.

Addresses to the nuclear family of Martinez ZOGO our condolences, and present to the entire press and media family our wishes of courage in the accomplishment of their noble missions.
