DRIVERS IN BAMENDA GO ON STRIKE

Drivers Packed Cars In Protest Of Numerous Colonial Police Extortion Posts On Bamenda-Batibo Stretch

When everyone is trying to deal with inflation in basic daily commodities, fuel scary hikes, la vih chèh in general, Colonial police are being continuously inconsiderate and going on with their extortion from cab drivers who nearly have enough for them and their families.

But it is said

When hunters become more skillful to the point of shooting without missing, birds also will develop more strength in their wings so that they will fly and not perch anywhere. Since the colonial LRC terrorist military officers have decided that they will leave no stone unturned, by extorting from every single driver along the Bamenda-Batibo Stretch of the road, the drivers also have decided to take a sit-down strike by not going out to work and see how the extortion mechanism will work. In a strike action that took effect on Tuesday, January 31st, with the commercial vehicles not on the roads of Bamenda-Batibo. The drivers have decided there must be a removal of the numerous colonial extortion checkpoints.

When a people with such determination, decide, what or who can stop them? Transporters along the Bamenda-Batibo Stretch of road entered day two of their sit-down strike action in protest of the numerous colonial checkpoints on the stretch. The drivers talking to UNDAUNTED opined that they won't work till the colonial authorities dismantle all the colonial extortion posts called checkpoints on the Bamenda-Batibo road. The drivers say they prefer staying at home and not working than going out every day in the name of work and at the end of the no-take home. That all that they have as proceeds of driving the whole is just to meet two demands, buy their way through the so many LRC so-called forces of law and Order control posts and the other half to fuel their cars with nothing left for them to feed themselves and their families.

Frustrating again to the drivers is the fact that these thugs of the Yaounde regime don't care and are not willing to know if a driver is having a favorable working day or not. And is of no advantage to acquire car documentation as all they want is money. The drivers confided to UNDAUNTED that the intervals between two LRC colonial police checkpoint on the way is so close that they can see their colleagues at the next checkpoint, yet these extortion posts are considered different and drivers must buy their way through twice with none of the checkpoints willing to consider.

How outrageous!!

Can you imagine?

Business persons operating around the Azire New Church area in the early hours of today told UNDAUNTED that the colonial LRC Police Officers who are usually stationed there extorting drivers were disappointed on the 31st of January without any commercial vehicle passing. "They came at the usual time for control, but left much earlier than before because drivers decided to pack their vehicles. There was no one to give them money so they left in frustration," the vendor added. Visiting the park where these transporters of the Bamenda-Batibo usually load their vehicles in Bamenda, UNDAUNTED met them in small groups discussing amongst themselves with smiles on their faces.

"We have been slaves for too long and we have decided that enough is enough. We are not going to work if the number of checkpoints is reduced and not dismantled at all. It is true that we have families to cater for, and such sacrifices are necessary for a better tomorrow." Said a driver. At press time, the colonial authorities in Bamenda had not yet reacted to this strike action by the transporters of the Bamenda-Batibo Stretch. But we’ll see if this action makes them do something about it or just ignore it.
